Nebojša Đurić and fight for justice!
At the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, Serbian Paralympian Nebojša Đurić achieved an outstanding result in the shot put, winning a silver medal with a throw of 11.98 meters. However, the joy of his success turned into disappointment when the jury, after an appeal regarding the equipment he used, annulled all the results Đurić had achieved in this competition.
What happened?
The decision to annul the results was made after a complaint was filed regarding the technical correctness of the bench from which Đurić threw the shot. This bench has been in use since the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and Đurić competed on it at the World Championships in Paris 2023 and Kobe 2024, where he also won a silver medal.
Before the competition in Paris, the bench passed all previous inspections and was approved as fully compliant for use. The decision to annul the results, despite the bench being legally approved, caused shock among members of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, who are in constant communication with the leadership of World Para Athletics. They have also requested all records concerning the bench and the jury’s decisions, but these documents have not yet been delivered.
Next steps and fight for justice
After all the results were annulled, Đurić decided to withdraw from the discus throw competition in the F56 category due to an injury sustained in the previous days of competition. The Paralympic Committee of Serbia plans to initiate legal proceedings against World Para Athletics to seek justice for Đurić and ensure transparency in decision-making.
In this fight, Đurić and his coach, former world champion Miloš Zarić, enjoy significant support from Serbia and around the world. Particularly notable is the support from the Ministry of Sports, which has provided legal and moral backing, encouraging everyone to continue the fight for the rights of our athletes.
We call on the public to support Nebojša Đurić in his effort to reclaim the right to his won medals and to ensure fairness in sports. The Paralympic Committee of Serbia will continue to stand by its athletes in this difficult situation.
